In the simulation, Daisy ran through lists. Allies and enemies alike. She confused them all the time.
This had started many years ago. So many she almost lost count. All of it had led to this time, this era.
But sometimes she allowed herself to sink back into a daydream.
Her favorite was the beach. Of a long-ago day when Gatsby had been kinder, when he hadn’t looked at her with something like distrust in his eyes.
That world was gone now. Gone to fire and mayhem.
Giving up on him hadn’t been a choice.
It had been fate.
This series is inspired by 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in a city on the brink of dystopian musings. Each story is 100 words, a snapshot of a larger narrative at play.
